Ssese Islands are famous for their rich and diverse birdlife, and a visit to Kizira Nature Trails will likely add to your list of spotted birds. The birds may hide in the dense forest but their omnipresence is obvious from the polyphony of their calls.
With a bit of luck you may also encounter the playful otters in the lake, the creepy monitor lizards along the shore, and the cheeky vervet monkeys in the canopy above you.
Do look out for the small creatures too, the colorful butterflies, the battalions of army ants marching on the forest floor, the fungi and ferns, and the myriads of seedlings patiently waiting for one of the old trees to give up, so that they can start their race for the light and a share of the canopy.
